Most of what gets reported as an outage is not one. These are the patterns worth telling apart before you assume the network is at fault.
- Only part of your home is out
- That is usually a tripped breaker rather than an outage. Check the panel before reporting.
- Your neighbors still have power
- The fault is likely between the street and your property, which is still worth reporting to your utility, but it will not appear as an area outage.
- The whole street is dark
- Report it here and to your utility. Your utility restores power; this site only tells you how widespread it is.
