What we store when you submit a report
Two separate records, kept apart on purpose.
The report is the problem type, a two-letter region derived from your connection, a coarse metropolitan area, and a timestamp. That is the whole row. It contains nothing that could identify you, so there is no way to ask this site what any one person has reported.
The second record exists only to stop one person filing the same report over and over. It holds a rotating session hash, the provider, the ZIP code if you typed one, and a timestamp. It holds no report content and is deleted within two hours. Nothing on this site reads it except the two limits it exists for.
These used to be one row. They were separated in August 2026 because the combination could answer more about a person than this site has any reason to know, even though each field on its own was harmless.
About the session hash
It is your IP address and browser string, mixed with the current date and a secret, then hashed. Because the date is part of it, the hash changes at midnight UTC and cannot be linked to yesterday's, by us or by anyone. It is not reversible without the secret, and it is deleted with the rest of that record after two hours.
About the metropolitan area, because it is the newest thing here
Your connection tells us a postal code. We use it to work out which metropolitan area you are in, store that metro, and discard the postal code. The postal code itself is never written down. A metro covers millions of people; a postal code covers a few thousand, so this is deliberately the coarser of the two.
We only recognize the metros this site has pages for. If you are anywhere else, nothing is recorded about your location beyond the two-letter region.
What we do not store
No account, no name, no email address, no phone number, no precise coordinates, no street address, no postal code derived from your connection, and no IP address in readable form.
How long any of it lasts
The rate-limiting record is deleted after two hours. Individual reports are deleted after 48 hours, once they have been counted into hourly totals. Those totals are kept: they are the site's own record of how much is being reported over time, and they are counts only, with no hash, no ZIP and nothing about any individual in them.
